I’ve put together a collection of historic photos of Ipswich for a slide show program this Saturday May 20, 2017, 1 PM in the Collins Room at the Ipswich Public Library. The theme is how the town center changed over the years. The photographs start at the South Green, head up North Main and Meeting House Green, then down the hill to Market Street. I’ll be using photos from various eras, including images developed from glass plate negatives by George Dexter and Edward Darling, early photographers.
Thanks to Bill Barton and Jeanne Engel for the Edward Darling photos, and to Stoney Stone for developing the Ipswich Museum collection. I include some of his recent photos to demonstrate “then and now.” It’s open discussion, and join me after the program for a short walking tour of Meeting House Green and North Main. –Gordon Harris, Ipswich Town Historian
