The prize money for the 25th Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon has been increased this year to encourage local challengers to compete against their peers and raise their standards. Athletes who come in first place will receive HK$12 million, with HK$6 million for second and HK$3 million for third. Athletes who finish within the top eight will also get a bonus. Athletes in the team event, meanwhile, will get double those amounts. Among them, Singaporean kitesurfer Maximilian Maeder is the highest earner for his likely bronze medal in the men’s category. He will take home a bonus of HK$750,000, which is more than double the amount for a fourth-place finish.
