Stories from the Waterside, published in 2000, offers Newburyport’s history through true stories that have been retold for more than three centuries. This -Town Memoir- of Newburyport, captures the spirit of the community, from the founding to present day. Episodes include the -Newburyport Tea Party,  the Great Fire of 1811, the rise and fall of important industries, and modern-day redevelopment. Characters include Lord  Timothy Dexter, William Lloyd Garrison, and bad boy mayor Bossy Gillis.

Author Liz Nelson has been a resident of Boston’s North Shore for many years and has written extensively on its historic and scenic places. Illustrator Christopher Gurshin has lived in Newburyport since 1972. He is renowned for his distinctive style of Early American primitive painting-
