The Singapore Prize is a biennial award worth $200,000 presented to Singaporean scientists and engineers for their contributions to science and technology. The prize is named after Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who was instrumental in shaping the country into the green garden city that it is today. It is a key component of the Singapore Scientific Research and Innovation Awards (SSR&IA), which are administered by the National Research Foundation, Singapore.

NUS Asia Research Institute distinguished fellow Kishore Mahbubani mooted the prize in an opinion piece for The Straits Times, saying that nations are shaped by “imagined communities”, and a shared understanding of history is a critical glue holding societies together. He was among the judges of the prize’s inaugural award this year, for Singapore and the Silk Road of the Sea, 1300-1800, by archaeologist John Miksic.

During his four-day visit, the prince will meet with groups working to tackle climate change. These include an Indian maker of solar-powered dryers, a soil carbon marketplace and groups that work to make electric car batteries cleaner, restore Andean forests and deter illegal fishing. Prince William, whose royal foundation launched the prize in 2020, said the solutions demonstrated by the 15 finalists showed that “hope remains” as climate change continues to cause widespread destruction.

The group that wins the first prize in the Singapore Golf Championship will get a minimum of $2 million, while the second place team gets $3 million. This is the largest prize in the history of the tournament, which was started in 1998 and has been a regular feature on the Asian Tour. The competition is held in Marina Bay, a waterfront area with the world’s third-largest marina and a cosmopolitan business district.

The prize money for the golf tournament is based on the number of players from each country, as well as how they rank overall. It’s the only time that a country has awarded a winner with such a large sum of money, making it a truly global competition. In addition, the golf tournament is one of the few events in which all players have a equal opportunity to win. The winners are selected on a points system, which is adjusted every year based on the number of tournaments. The total number of points is divided into three categories: the highest total, the most points earned by the best player and the total number of rounds played. Each category is given a different point value, with the highest total being the champions’ point.
